History
In 2016, The Killick Inn & Suites became a newly established inn. It’s nestled in the scenic town of Arnold’s Cove and at the heart of local commercial and industrial development. Conveniently located for business travellers, as well as visiting tourists. The Inn is located in a scenic area and close to tourism destinations.
This 22-unit facility has become a landmark to this small rural town. It provides a way to bring people to the area, it plays a role in the local economy, it provides jobs to the community, and it supports business development and tourism opportunities.
What’s in a name?

A killick is a traditional anchor made of wood and stone
We often get asked about the name. What does “killick” mean? A killick is a traditional handmade anchor used by small boats, made of a long stone encased in sticks. It was traditionally used by fishermen to anchor their boats.
While brainstorming for a name for our inn, it seemed fitting to use a cultural reference, since honouring Newfoundland culture is one of our values. After tossing around many ideas, the one that made the most sense to use was “killick”.
We envision being like an anchor in the community, playing a key role in helping to provide support and sustainability to the community and local area for years to come.

Founders

Founders Andy and Darlene Hennebury and their son William
For their son William, who was 3 years old at the time of construction, the family business is pretty much all he’s known. He grew up seeing the construction of an inn and then the operation of an inn ever since. But for his parents, this major venture was a new path in life.
Having a degree and background in science, Andy worked in the fields of natural environment and economic development, as well as tourism and regional development.
Darlene also graduated from university, her background is in business and accounting. She obtained her accounting designation and worked in accounting and auditing. When you book with us, you will deal first hand with Darlene and she’ll make sure your guest experience is a positive one.
After a few years into their marriage and having a child, Darlene and Andy dreamed of starting their own business together. Their path of brainstorming and inspiration led to their decision to build an inn, overlooking the ocean, in rural Newfoundland.
So many lessons and pivots along the way, as the local economic landscape has changed several times since the business started, and also there was this thing called a global pandemic! But onwards and upwards! There is so much to do and so many opportunities to grow this family business and to make it the top-of-mind place to stay.

“This place is immaculate and it has everything you would expect and more. I stayed in many many places on the road and I can say without doubt this place is the best, hands down. So clean, so comfortable! I wish there was a rating higher than 5 stars because this place deserves it.” -Geoff, business traveller
